Big Stone Outreach Office

The Outreach Office is best known for the Big Stone Lake Area Emergency Food Shelf. There are no income guidelines to use this service. A three-day supply of food is given to households in need once per month. Food Shelf hours are Wednesdays from 1:00 – 4:00pm and Thursdays from 9:00am – noon.

Located with the outreach office is a Clothing Room where used clothing is sold at low prices. We accept donations of clean, gently used clothing, household items, and small appliances. Shopping hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm.

Energy Assistance applications can be picked up in the office or mailed out. This program is based on income guidelines. There are programs for crisis situations and assistance for utility disconnects. Contact the office if help is needed.

NAPS boxes for seniors are distributed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ortonville on the third Tuesday each month. Call for more information.

There is a trained MNSure Navigator on staff to help with your application on the MNSure website. Call to make an appointment for application assistance.

A Loan Closet provides hospital equipment (wheelchairs, shower chairs, walkers, etc.) for rent at reasonable prices. Items can be rented by the month for as long as you need them. Call with questions.

The Outreach Office can help with self-sufficiency issues, Head Start, Weatherization and referrals to other agencies. To apply for any Prairie Five programs or for assistance in contacting other agencies, call the Big Stone County Outreach Office. If we can’t help you, we may be able to find someone who can!

Volunteers are always needed! Please call to volunteer!
